Disabled Event

Closed Circuit Disabled/Para/Livewell Event - 3rd June 2017

The event is an inclusive team event, whereby everyone riding contributes to a cumulative distance. Riders set off at allocated times and ride as far as they can in their allotted slot. The distance is added to that of the other riders and in total, the riders will aim to ride the Tour de Manc “Full Manc” distance of 100 miles / 160km. The ride will be held on a marshalled, closed cycle track. The riding will be supported by accompanying events. Medals will be given to the riding team members.

The event will be held at the Tameside Cycling Circuit, located at: 159 Richmond Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL7 9HG

The event is aimed at disabled/para-cyclists, anyone referred to the Livwell scheme and riders who do not have the capacity to ride on the road. We recognise that there will be riders on the track with very different abilities and this is a team endurance event and NOT a race.

When bookings are open, you will see a booking link activated on the website. The Tour de Manc uses Eventbright to supply its Online Registration System and the website booking link will direct you to the correct booking page in Eventbrite. As part of the registration process you will need to create an Eventbright account (if you already have an Eventbright account, you will not need to re-register). This will enable you to log back into the system and self-manage your personal data and event entries.

Entries may be taken on the day if places are available, however the inaugural ride was massively oversubscribed and it is quite unlikely that there will be availability. It is advisable to call Tour de Manc a day or two beforehand, to check if there is availability as online registrations will finish a number of days before the ride commences.

Registration opens at 07.00hrs. First riders will be departing at 07.30hrs and then 5 mins following. You may start at any time, however the finish will close at 17:30hrs sharp. After this, timing, medals, gift bags etc will not be available. So you need to gauge your start time accordingly. If you are riding the “Full Manc”, it is prudent to start as early as possible to give you the best chance of completing the ride.

Riders will get a set start time with their ticket as well as a reservation for a bike/adapted bike if required. Riders will be started at the allocated time and will ride for a maximum of one hour (or as many laps as the rider can manage). Laps will be counted and accumulated tothe team total.

There is ample dedicated car parking clearly signposted from the A6045 for the sportive. Tour de Manc Sportive Event Parking is at: Bowlee Country Park, Heywood Old Road (A6045), Middleton, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M24 4SD

Do not drive to the VirginActive Lancashire club and try to park there, unless you are a VirginActive member and have your VirginActive pass with you – you will be turned away by the marshals and may find it difficult to rejoin the marshalled parking system. The parking is free and marshalled.

The parking area has toilets and changing facilities, located in a pavilion, next to the parking area. You are welcome to use these, however you may prefer to use the changing facilities and storage facilities at the VirginActive Lancashire club.

On the day you may call our ride control (the number will be included in your ride info pack), who will try and help with any issues. There will also be volunteers driving on each route to offer advice to riders who can’t complete the ride due to mechanical failure or fatigue.

We will have mechanics supporting the Tour de Manc from King Kog (a local, Prestwich based, bike shop). There will be a mechanics station at the start line and there will also be a mechanic stop at approx. 40 miles (also manned by King Kog). The mechanics will have some spare parts for most common bikes and although they will not charge for their labour, spares/parts are chargeable.

It is essential that you carry a spare inner tube, patches, pump and a mini-tool with you – these can be purchased from the mechanics station, should you forget them.

A rider information pack will be provided to you prior to the departure with detailed routing description. For those with GPS navigation devices, we will provide TCX and a GPX files of the routes on the website for download. This routes are adequatelysigned, though we recommend you buddy up with a small group of other riders (this will also enhance your enjoyment of the ride). There will be volunteers driving on each route to offer advice to riders. If in doubt, you can always call ride control for navigation assistance.
